Rusa Deer

Whilst New Zealand has several herds of rusa deer on the north island holding what is considered moderate numbers, Australia on the other hand has an expanding herd in a number of locations. However, it is well documented that by far the biggest population of rusa deer in the South Pacific; which also boasts excellent trophy potential is the herd that is found in New Caledonia. Anyone that has hunted the New Caledonian rusa, invariably say that the numbers of deer spotted each day during a hunt, is something else. Consequently, hunters from far and wide continue to flock to the French run territory in search of, not only a trophy stag but also a hunting experience second to none. It's no secret, New Caledonia is recognised as having, some of the best deer hunting in the world.

It is also worth noting that opportunities to hunt rusa and the trophy potential has improved markedly in Australia in more recent times with some exceptional heads being taken, particularly from the herds that are now well established in the state of Queensland.
